The First Christmas

Purchase The First Christmas at AMAZON

The First Christmas is a lovely soft cover book revealing the stories, people, and divine callings of the first Christmas. It even encompasses events leading up to Christ’s birth. Although this book is geared toward younger readers, all ages can enjoy it.

Each story-within-the-story is illustrated by lively, rich drawings and page background colors. The wording flows nicely and is easily understood, and doesn’t contradict the Bible.

Included in this book are the accounts of:
     ·                The Jewish people ruled by Romans.
     ·                Gabriel’s message to Zachariah and Elizabeth.
     ·                Gabriel’s message to Mary.
     ·                Mary’s visit to Elizabeth.
     ·                An angel visits to Joseph in a dream.
     ·                Mary and Joseph travel to Bethlehem.
     ·                The Messiah’s birth.
     ·                Shepherds find the newborn Messiah in a manger.
     ·                Wise men worship their new King.

One of the most valuable aspects of this storybook (other than sharing the good news of Jesus’ birth) is the question portion at the bottom of each story page. The discussion questions ask the reader how they think they’d feel or react in similar situations. This causes the reader/listener to pause and reflect on each story, and in turn, makes the story more memorable and easier to envision.

Janice D. Green (author) and Violet Vandor (illustrator) have provided a wonderful service to young readers. They’ve also included a family activity in the back of the book, offering links to coloring pages, quilting crafts, etc.
