If You Were Me and Lived In France

“So now you see, if you were me, how life in France could really be.”

If You Were Me and Lived in…France is part of the “If You Were Me and Lived In…” learning book series. I love learning opportunity of these books and have read and reviewed two previous books of the series. A map in the front of the book shows the location of France, and the colorful illustrations are appealing.

This non-fiction series awakens an appreciation and hunger for history in young readers. Not only is the reader entertained and educated, but also builds his/her vocabulary with words from each particular culture.

If You Were Me and Lived in…France displays the distinctive features of this beautiful country. From living in the capital city of Paris, the first city in Europe to use gas streetlamps, to visiting the Eiffel Tower built in 1889.

As in the other books of the series, names of boys and girls, types of currency, cultural foods, and historical buildings are shared. The book even describes celebratory days and pastimes, such as Le Football (soccer) and Bastille Day.

It’s necessary to teach children about different cultures, beliefs, and environments. The world is made up of diverse people and ways of life, and it’s nice for our young ones to have at least an impression of our French neighbors.

Some names or words, such as Gustave (Goos-tav) and Eiffel (Eye-Ful) may be new to young readers, so the pronunciation page at the back of the book is helpful.

This series is recommended for young explorers who are curious about the world around them. The engaging and edifying books make unique gifts and constructive additions to any child’s bookshelf.
