If You Were Me and Lived in Turkey

“So now you see, if you were me, how life in Turkey could really be.”

If You Were Me and Lived in…Turkey is part of the “If You Were Me and Lived In…” learning book series. I really like the unique concept of these books. As a child, I was curious about different countries and cultures.

This non-fiction series awakens an appreciation and hunger for history in children. Not only is the reader entertained and educated, but is provided the opportunity to broaden his/her vocabulary with common words and names from each particular culture. The illustrations are engaging and colorful and give a glimpse into the showcased country.

If You Were Me and Lived in…Turkey contains a map that highlights Turkey’s location. It depicts interesting areas and foods unique to this country, such as the Hagia Sophia, and Borek pastries, as well as games, names, holidays, and more.

I think it’s essential for children to learn different cultures, beliefs, and environments, and this series of books provide a wonderful peek into life outside our particular country.

Some names or words, such as Damla (Dam-LA) Pide (pid-e) and Bebek (bee-bek) may be new to young readers, so the pronunciation page at the back of the book is valuable.

This series is recommended for young explorers who are curious about the world around them. The engaging and edifying books make unique gifts and constructive additions to any child’s bookshelf.
