I Love Restore my Soul, (a coloring book Devotional Journey) written and illustrated by Ann-Margret Hovsepian. It is a Christian-themed coloring book with many two-paged themes, each displaying a full-page devotion and a full-page corresponding illustration to color. The pretty designs get my creative juices flowing, and the devotions are inspiring, making this book an edifying pastime.
“My desire is for your soul to be restored as you draw near to Him through the Bible verses, the meditations, the prayer prompts, and, of course, the quiet times you will spend working on the coloring pages.” ~Excerpt from the introduction.
Introduction: In the beginning of the book is a quote from Pablo Picasso, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up”, and a brief introduction describing how God designed us in His image, which means we all have creative and artistic potential. This coloring book’s purpose is to draw us closer to our creative selves, as well as restore our souls by drawing nearer to God. What a beautiful premise for a book!
Craftsmanship: The softbound book has a smooth, glossy cover and sturdy white pages, without bleed-through to the backside. The drawings are on the right side of pages, and the verses and devotions are on the left side, so you aren’t coloring on the backside of any coloring pages (unless you decide to color the design bordering each devotion page.)
“The beauty of God’s creation is still there even when it’s being rained on and overshadowed. You just have to look at it more intentionally.” ~Excerpt from the pg. 20 devotion.
Suggestions: Some adult coloring books require using only coloring pencils or gel pens, due to the intricate designs. Even though some of these pages are complex, there are many parts where using crayons are practical, too.
Bonus: In the back of the book there are 6 blank coloring pages with a pretty border, for you to draw and color your own designs. There is also an About the Author page, and a Coming Soon page, informing the reader of the next coloring book: Gratitude: A Prayer and Praise Coloring Journal.
This book is a lovely way to spend unique quiet time with God. I’m delighted to own it, and plan to frame some of these pages for colorful reminders to spend time in reflection.
