If You Were Me and Lived In India

“So now you see, if you were me, how life in India could really be.”

If You Were Me and Lived in…India is another entry in the educational “If You Were Me and Lived In…” books, and one of my favorites in the series. It takes young readers on a journey to India, with a map in the beginning that shows its location in South Asia, and colorful illustrations depicting Indian boys and girls.

This non-fiction series awakens an appreciation and hunger for history in young readers. Not only are readers entertained and educated, but also build their vocabulary with words from each particular culture.

If You Were Me and Lived in…India exposes readers to the cultural differences of living in South Asia. From living in the capital city of New Delhi, where important laws are made, to visiting The Taj Mahal (a beautiful monument emperor Shah Jehan made for his wife) readers will be exposed to numerous cultures and aspects things they may have never heard of before.

As in the other books of the series, names of boys and girls (such as Raj and Nikita) currency (rupee) cultural foods (biryani) and sports (cricket) are described.

It’s essential to teach our children about the different cultures, beliefs, and environments our world is made up of. This book provides the perfect opportunity to gain at glimpse of life in India.

Some names or words, such as Annoop (a-noop) and Bollywood (bol-lee-wood) may be new to young readers, so the pronunciation guide in the back of the book is informative.

This series is recommended for young explorers who are curious about the world around them. The engaging and edifying books make unique gifts and constructive additions to any child’s bookshelf.
