I stared at my reflection and felt a chapter slamming shut. ~excerpt
Of Stillness and Storm isn’t a predictable book. It’s full of surprises, and aptly titled. The emotions the readers go through varies from calm to tempest.
I really didn’t know what I was getting into upon opening this book. The hardships were sometimes difficult to read, but I cared about the characters and yearned for them to find a happy, peaceful place in life. Being a missionary obviously takes sacrifices, and sometimes it’s the ones closest to us that suffer the most.
This is definitely a poignant read, and it sucks the reader in quickly. Sometimes the emotional aspect was a bit much for me and I had to put the book away for a bit to let some of the struggles dispel. I suppose that is a sign of a talented writer. This story made the difficulties and realities of missionary life become more real to me. It’s much more than the physicality of it.
This can be a difficult read for some, but the message is profound, meaningful, and lasting.
