Debra Hart is moving on. Maybe. Hopefully. One day.

As a radio show host, Debra spends her mornings as Miss Lonely Heart on air, empathizing with all the broken hearts in the Denver metro area. She spends her evenings watching old musicals and trying not to think about the guy who broke up with her and subsequently fell in love with one of her best friends. Alone in a new city, Debra questions where she belongs and who she is now.

When she stumbles into the indie music scene, Debra meets singer Ben Price. Rock star appeal, with a day job as a worship pastor, Ben is everything Debra wants to avoid. But he’s determined to be her friend, and it so happens she could really use one. Because try as she might, nothing seems to erase the anger and betrayal she feels.

It’s time for a new dream. But how does she start over when she doesn’t even know what she wants anymore?

πŸ’– Cover Lover's Review πŸ’–

Okay, I know it’s only February, but After the Rainby Brandy Bruce, a new-to-me-author, is most certainly going on my Five Favorite Books of 2019 list! I ADORE the characters, was pulled into the emotion of the story very quickly, believed the plot, and sighed upon reading Every. Single. Chapter.

Sigh… Sigh… Sigh…

This story will stay with me for quite some time. Upon learning that After the Rain is the second book in a series, I’m dying to go back to read book one, The Last Summer (Sarah’s story.)

I connected to Debra almost immediately—not because we have many similarities, but because I became part of her. I felt her heartbreak, fear, uncertainties, and burn of betrayal. And at the same time I yearned to push her out of her protective cocoon, to take a chance on becoming a lively butterfly.

Debra is one of the most realistic main characters I’ve come across in sometime. She feels like a friend and confidant, one I don’t want to go away for any length of time. I want her story to continue and to be able to follow along beside her.

And Ben (sigh…) Adorable, kindhearted, and (perhaps most importantly) patient, Ben. He is the ultimate male. He isn’t a superhero donning a red cape. He isn’t a knight in shining armor. He’s a spiritual man, wearing an understanding heart and genuine smile. And if that isn’t enough, he sings like a songbird. Wowza. Be still my heart.

The secondary characters (even the ones that are only mentioned via dialogue) add so much to this story. The backdrop of Denver, with its beautiful scenery and unique perks, is a character of its own.

With themes of faith, freedom, friendship, and following your true path, this story wins on every point. Read this book! I am certain you will love it.

On a five-star rating system, this book is a solid ten.
