M.C. is a cancer cell who shares just enough information about the nature of the disease to promote dialogue and minimize fear. The scary part of cancer is the unknown. Learn about doctors who look for cancer. Understand feelings children experience and learn ways to cope. Empower children with knowledge and how to make a difference. M.C. Plays Hide & Seek strengthens communication and builds emotional health.
M.C. Plays Hide & Seek is the first book in the Talk4Hope Family Book Series: helping children understand cancer. It contains an empowering and educational story for children who may be experiencing fear, worry, and other concerns after learning a loved one has cancer. The author's notes express how her inspiration to write this story was the lack of counseling for her children following her own cancer diagnosis and treatment. She wishes they had been encouraged to express their concerns and fears and given resources to help them understand what cancer is.
I believe this book should be read with supervision and guidance. Cancer isn't a pleasant topic, therefore the target audience for this story is 5-10-year-olds who have had cancer touch their lives in some way—whether a parent, sibling, grandparent, or friend.
This short book is informative, gentle, and sure to reduce children's discomfort and fears concerning a loved one who has been diagnosed with cancer. I love the "About the Reader" fill-in-the-blanks page in the back of the book. It is a wonderful interactive tool to help young readers express their feelings.

Mr. C the Globetrotter is the second book in the Talk4Hope Family Book Series: helping children understand cancer.
Meet Mr. C, a cancer cell, up close and personal, as he visits countries around the globe. He introduces readers to children who have a family member with cancer. Each child shares his or her name, it's meaning, and how they've been coping since Mr. C came to visit. Readers are empowered with ways to help themselves and others.
