A Promise for Faith Excerpt 7

The cost was more than she had currently in her checking account. Faith would have to tap into her savings account, the one she’d promised to never touch unless something dire had arisen. With no more paychecks on the foreseeable horizon, what was she going to do?

“Faith.” Her best friend since childhood, Taylor Evans, and her husband Jarod rushed into the garage. Taylor gathered Faith in a hug.  “I’ve missed you.”

“Hey, Tay. Hey,  Jarod.” Faith’s emotions calmed under her friend’s soothing voice and warm hug. “Me too. Good to see you both.”

Jarod pointed to the garage, “What did they say about your car?”

“It’s the water pump,” interjected the man behind the counter around his thick wad of over-exposed gum. “I knew right away. Gonna take a few days or so to fix.”

Caleb blew out a long breath, and Jarod whistled as Faith’s shoulders sank.

“Let’s get the boxes out of your car, so we can load them in Jarod’s truck.” Caleb headed toward the garage bay door, “Show me what you want to take.”

He held the door open for their friends. Faith tightened the coat around her as the temperature had fallen in the minutes they’d been in the shop. All four of them worked to move the high-end chef’s supply boxes to the back of Jarod’s truck.
