GIVEAWAY & Review: The Power of Thank You

Image
First Line: Because God does so much for us, we should be thankful in every circumstance, even if everything is not pleasant for us at the moment. _____  ❤ _____ R ᴇᴠɪᴇᴡ   My inspirational word for 2022 is thankfulness, so  The Power of Thank You  is the perfect book to jumpstart the new year. I was already uplifted from the first page, where Joyce Meyer states:    “The words thanks and thanksgiving appear in approximately one hundred verses in the Bible, and we are told to give thanks seventy-three times. I believe that anything the Holy Spirit repeats that often must be important to my life and yours.”   Being grateful isn’t only God’s will for us (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) but it plants our mind in positivity. If we sit around grumbling and coarse, we certainly aren’t being pleasing to God and are a discouragement to others. But when we set our mind on being thankful, we encourage others to do the same.    Above all, I’m thankful to God. No matter how trying the past few pandemic yea

GIVEAWAY & Review: Sons of Thunder REDEMPTION (PureFlix series)

Image
Click  here  to sign up for Pure Flix to watch this series! _____  ❤ _____ R ᴇᴠɪᴇᴡ I’m enjoying the  Sons of Thunder: Redemption  spin-off show of the  Sons of Thunder franchise. Just as the original  Sons of Thunder  followed Simon, a former combat veteran and “Devil’s Hand” biker group member,  Redemption  tracks the life of former group member, Jacob.   Jacob was recently released from prison for the crimes he committed while serving as a  Devil’s Hand  member. He is a changed man, trying to right past wrongs and tell others how Jesus transformed his life.   In the first three episodes, Jacob travels to California to seek forgiveness from Sandy, a past girlfriend he had wronged. He finds her working at Gibson Ranch that is in danger of foreclosure. Jacob begins working for the Gibson’s and helps plan a rodeo fund-raiser to ease their financial worries.       Episode 4: Mike, the ranch owner, stews over being wronged by Ethan, a former friend, while he’s stuck inside recuperating f

Middle School: It’s a Zoo in Here!

Image
First Lines: "Wahoo!" It was the last minute of the last day of school before summer vacation. _____  ❤ _____ R ᴇᴠɪᴇᴡ The best way for me to explain this book is it is a fun, silly, full of hijinks, middle school-ey book. If you're looking for something realistic, keep looking. The happenings are improbable, but that’s what makes this story fun.   I haven’t read any other books in this series (this is book 14) so I didn’t have any background on the main character, Rafe Khatchadorian. But that didn’t slow things down at all. He has a big personality, and the reader gets a good feel for him beginning on page one. Rafe’s experiences at his job at the zoo is hilarious. Most people can relate to having to do menial, gross, or messy jobs when we were young, but Rafe takes the cake.    Middle School: It’s a Zoo in Here!  is a fast-paced chapter book for kids 8-12 years old. The chapters are short and easy to read, and the generous line-drawn black and white illustrations add

The Prince and the Prodigal (A 2022 Favorite!)

Image
First Line: Joseph walked the ancient path from the fields of Hebron to his father's tent beneath the oaks of Mamre. _____  ❤ _____ R ᴇᴠɪᴇᴡ   Another stunning biblical fiction story!   The Prince and the Prodigal , written by the talented Jill Eileen Smith, is a remarkable re-telling of the story of Joseph in the Bible. It is heartbreakingly beautiful and touched me deeply.   If you don’t know about the biblical story of Joseph, this will be remarkably fresh for you. And if you do know about Joseph’s life, you’ll see him, his family, Potiphar, and even the Egyptian slaves in a whole new way.    This book made me realize how very young Joseph was when he was betrayed by his brothers, and how bold his faith and strength were despite his hardships. I was immersed in biblical culture, showcasing how men were mighty and women were essentially powerless to make their own choices in most matters. But what rang true the loudest, and will stay with me for some time, is how God’s power,

GIVEAWAY & Review: If the Tomb Is Empty

Image
First Line: So there I was... (That's how I start every good story.)   _____  ❤ _____ R ᴇᴠɪᴇᴡ   I like the conversational tone of  If the Tomb is Empty.  Pastor Joby Martin is candid about his upbringing and the hardships in his life, which made him easy to connect to. It’s important to connect with a main character in any book, but maybe even more so in non-fiction. If an author comes across as sanctimonious or the writing is tedious and dictatorial, I find it difficult to relate and usually close the book quickly.   With that said, this author emits a warm quality, as if having a chat with a friend. I love how he journeys through the Bible, illustrating Salvation by revealing mountainous encounters with God. Each chapter closes with a prayer.   I love how the book shares the story of Jesus, his sacrifice and resurrection, and the saving grace He offers us all.    “Because…if the tomb is empty, anything is possible.”   Disclosure: #CoverLoverBookReview received a complimentary

GIVEAWAY & More: Defending David (A 2022 Favorite!)

Image
First Line: Ittai calculated every footfall so as not to spook the piglet. _____  ❤ _____ R ᴇᴠɪᴇᴡ My, oh my, oh my!    I am in total #booklove.    One morning, I picked up  Defending David: Ittai’s Journey  in hopes of reading a chapter or two before lunch, and I finished the book at dinnertime. I couldn’t put it down. I haven’t been so swept away by a story in some time. I was touched, inspired, and deeply satisfied.   I sank into this story with ease, delving effortlessly into the lives of Ittai and Rimona. I enjoyed seeing the events through their eyes, learning more and more about them and how their hearts were strengthened by loss, love, and loyalty.   I was quickly intrigued by Ittai—first as a boy, and then as a warrior in his thirties. He is easy to love and respect. He is bold, honorable, loyal, strong, and brave. What more could you ask for in a hero?    Rimona is such a strong-willed and determined woman, yet she is gentle-hearted and humble. I connected with her and her d

The 5 Apology Languages (A 2022 Favorite!)

Image
First Line: In a perfect world, there  would  be no need for apologies. _____  ❤ _____ R ᴇᴠɪᴇᴡ The 5 Apology Languages  may be one of my favorite books in the  Language Series . Apologies are so important. The lack of them often leads to strains on a relationship, and who wants that?    For some people, apologizing is very difficult…or they do it in the wrong way. And when I say in the wrong way, I mean in the wrong language. We all give and receive apologies differently, so it’s empowering to learn how the people in my life wish to receive apologies.   EXPRESSING REGRET ACCEPTING RESPONSIBILITY MAKING RESTITUTION PLANNED CHANGE REQUESTING FORGIVENESS   I really enjoyed learning the different languages and learning my own. Once I read through each chapter, I filled out  The Apology Language Profile  section in the back and discovered that my apology language is OVERWHELMINGLY,  Expressing Regret.  There are 20 scenarios presented, and you are to choose which apology would feel the be
