Christmas at Whispering Creek
ABOUT THE BOOK
Nashville native, Cole Donoven, left his family’ s electrical business to write country music. When Cole’ s song-writing partner and girlfriend dumps him for a country music star, Cole abandons Nashville to hole up in Whispering Creek and compose one more song. The last thing Cole expects to find in the sleepy small town is a deceased friend, estate squabbles, and a Northern beauty. Will the chaos in Whispering Creek help create a bestselling song for Cole and possibly help him find a life-long collaborator?
MY REVIEW
A 2023 Fav♡rite!
Oh my! Is it possible to review Christmas at Whispering Creek without gushing? This story is such a blessing, with beautiful writing, incredible characters, and a faith-filled, heartwarming, soul-edifying message! Samantha and Cole are extraordinary characters. I love their backstories and how they keep going forward to heal their hearts. And their sweet (and sometimes humorous) prayers are stirring. Gush!
Sam is overcoming a breast cancer diagnosis, surgery, and complications. And to top it off, an ugly breakup. But it is evident early on that she is stronger than she thinks and has the confidence and faith to see her through anything.
And then there’s Cole. Oh my. I adore him. He makes my heart swell. He is a wounded and lonely man, feeling overlooked and betrayed. But his heart…his big heart is soooo good. I just knew his faith would be restored and his heart would be filled. Gush!
There are also several of their small-town neighbors that grew on me—some sweet as pie (Gretta, Daniel, and Lucinda), some a little sour but still lovable (Ernie.) Then there’s a grown brat in the story that makes my blood boil and deserves a good shaking!
This story deals with so many important matters—health issues, heartbreaks, acceptance, faith, betrayal, strength, love, and trust. And learning about the author’s own cancer survival (in the back of the book) makes the story even more touching.
I’ve adored everything I’ve read by this author, but this inspiring story is my favorite. These characters and their growth have touched me so deeply, and I hope to revisit them and the other unforgettable Whispering Creek townsfolk. Gush!

Thank you so much for this wonderful review, Cheryl. My heart is gushing! I never dreamed going through my cancer journey that I would write a book that included the word cancer. I hope Samanth's story encourages many readers. And I do love Cole, too.
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure, Barbara! I love this inspiring story. Please tell me there's a sequel... if not more on Samantha and Cole, then possibly Lucinda? I don't want to leave these characters behind!! 🥰
DeleteI'm working on Emma and Wade's story now. Samantha and Cole appear in the book. If I do a third book, it would be Lucinda's story.
DeleteWonderful!
DeleteAs a momma of a 20 something daughter who was diagnosed with breast cancer, this book caught my interest immediately. (My warrior daughter won the fight!) Christmas at Whispering Creek is a lovely title, and the plot is filled with hope. Thank you for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteHi Jeannie. I'm so glad your daughter won the cancer battle. Praise God. Thank you for joining us.
DeleteWhat kind of research did you do for the book?
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous! I'm a breast cancer survivor, so I lived the medical part. I have my old records and charts. I live in Wisconsin, but I had to study the weather and landscape of Tennessee. I also studied the food culture around Nashville. I learned about wills and trusts, too. I have visited Tennessee, but that was before I ever thought of setting a book in the state. Writing a contemporary story was much easier for me. I'm accustomed to historical research. I also pestered our electrician with questions. When AT&T came to the house, I asked about smartphones and what damage would be done if the phone was submerged in coffee. Thanks for joining us.

ReplyDeleteThank you. I gave my publisher some ideas and images of covers that I liked on published books, and they came up with the pretty snowy, cabin cover. I like it too. Thanks for joining us.
