MY REVIEW
Lulu and Malek: Sail Off to Sea is an adorable rhyming story of animal friends, Lulu and Malek, and how they both take care of the environment.
This giraffe and cub are so cute (as are the others) and I love how they notice the beauty of their surroundings and take care of the environment without the story feeling preachy. The rhymes have a fun, bouncy feel, the illustrations are charming, and the story is entertaining and adventurous.
I’d love to discover more Lulu and Malek books. And what a joy to learn that for each book sold a book is donated to Comfort Cases for foster children!

ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Just a bit about me. I live in Arizona, but for most of the year, I travel across our beautiful earth as a deckhand and yoga instructor in the yachting industry. I love the serenity of the sea, exploring treasured caves, hiking through lush green forests, immersing myself in different cultures, and meeting new friends. I recently launched an online retail store (www.yachtieinspired.com) that offers conservation and yachtie inspired designs through my Sea Our Love and Silent Whispers Collections. You can also purchase a Personalized Signed Copy of my books on my online store, or please visit junenfoster.com to learn more!
My co-author, Rob Scheer and I have completed two beautifully illustrated, heartfelt children's books. Rob is the Founder and CEO of Comfort Cases. Since 2013, Comfort Cases set out on a mission to eliminate the use of trash bags and provide children entering the foster system with brand new essential and comfort items. To date, Comfort Cases has positively impacted over 110,000 children, and has recently opened a chapter in the United Kingdom. GUEST POST
Good Luck?
By June N. Foster
One of the funniest pages in our story is when Lulu and Malek get splashed with flying bird droppings. The expressions captured by our Illustrator, Gill Guile are timeless. Still today, when I turn to this page, I still laugh aloud as it’s so relatable. Chances are, you’ve had this memorable moment as well!
I’m often outdoors working as a deckhand in the yachting industry. One season, I volunteered as an assistant researcher and deckhand for the Oceanomare Delphis project in Ischia, Italy. I was sitting on the deck, looking out to sea with binoculars trying to catch a first glimpse of a dolphin.
I remember vividly that shortly after this photo was taken, a seagull dropped its goods smack on the top of my head. The feeling of it landing was a mere gentle splat, yet my reaction when this happened was shock, laughter, and then the resounding “EWWW!”
What’s interesting is that throughout history, it is said that the receiver of a bird’s gift will also receive “good luck, blessings and fortune.” For centuries, many people thought of birds as magical creatures, while others believed that birds were angels in disguise, so receiving a dropping was most fortunate! Controversy, in old British tales, if a dropping comes from a rook (an abundant Eurasian bird of the crow family), it was seen as a form of is a punishment.
Whether one believes a bird dropping is a sign of good luck or punishment, one thing is for certain—they are always a surprise, falling from the sky, most unbeknownst to even the most aware. Writing this page for Lulu and Malek was a ton of fun! Rob and I hope you and your children find great amusement witnessing Lulu and Malek’s surprise gift from the sky!
Has this happened to you? We would love to hear!
